St Albans Cathedral and Pilgrimage Day

St Albans Cathedral

St Albans Cathedral is a stunning example of medieval architecture and a place of great historical significance. It is located in the city of St Albans, Hertfordshire, England and is considered to be one of the oldest and most important Christian sites in the country.

One of the most important events that take place at the cathedral is the annual pilgrimage day. This day is celebrated on the Sunday closest to the feast day of St Alban, the first Christian martyr in Britain. The day is an opportunity for people to come together and celebrate the life of St Alban and his contribution to the Christian faith.

The pilgrimage day begins with a procession from the city centre to the cathedral. The procession is led by the Mayor of St Albans and includes representatives from local schools, churches, and community groups. The procession is accompanied by music and singing, creating a festive atmosphere.

Once the procession reaches the cathedral, a service is held to celebrate the life of St Alban. The service includes hymns, prayers, and readings from the Bible. It is a time for reflection and contemplation, as well as a celebration of the Christian faith.

After the service, there are a variety of activities and events that take place around the cathedral. These include guided tours of the cathedral, exhibitions, and displays of historical artefacts. There are also food and drink stalls, as well as live music and entertainment.

The pilgrimage day is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the history and significance of St Albans Cathedral, as well as to celebrate the life of St Alban and the Christian faith. It is a truly unique and special event that brings people from all walks of life together in a spirit of community and celebration.

Some of the architecture has recently been renovated and in keeping with historic tradition of carving recent events into the stone here is an example.

Bushy’s Village

So it’s the famous TT races on the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 This afternoon the family and I managed to find time to all meet up and enjoy a few drinks at Bushy’s. For those that don’t know Bushy’s is a famous bar on the island which now runs as a beer and food festival for the TT.

Anyway the sun was shining and the beer was cold and as always the company was fantastic.

Home

Back home again following a week away. This Meander was in two part’s really. First was a few days in Lancaster to celebrate Mrs M’s birthday, followed by a drive up to Scotland where we spent a few days.

Now this was not a random trip!

Mrs M had organised a memorial for her mother who, nearly two years ago, passed away in Egypt.

Due to circumstance we were not able to repatriate her, so not able to have any real closure following her passing.

Mrs M, god love her, managed to put together a memorial evening getting family together as far apart as New Zealand.

Why Scotland, well that’s where she was born and raised. Where her family still live, where the people who knew her still live. Where her memories are.

The evening itself went amazingly with everyone coming together to celebrate life of Mrs M’s mother. We celebrated in one of the local bowling clubs in the village she she grew up with her sisters and family.

I do love visiting Scotland. There is something special about the place. Don’t know why but I always feel at home when I am there.

God bless and rest in peace.

So we have travelled to Lancaster for a few nights staying at our favorite hotels, The Toll House Inn.

We love it here a proper home from home. Comfy room and amazing staff who always go that extra mile to help, including providing gluten free food for Mrs M.

Really enjoy going to Lancaster always something new to find or do.
